The properties have been conveyed to the FUFG after they met all conditions required by the City of Winnipeg, which included raising a total of $10 million and securing ownership of the Grain Exchange Curling Club. FUFG has currently raised over $10 million and has an agreement to purchase the Curling Club.
Jerry Gray, Chair of the Friends of Upper Fort Garry says “We are delighted that we have been able to satisfy these conditions. Now, with ownership of the land, we can move forward and start the process of creating a world class heritage park and interpretive centre.”
Bob Cunningham, Chair of the FUFG Fundraising Committee, notes that while the City’s conditions have been met, donations and pledges are still required. Adds Cunningham, “Support has been tremendous for this project to date but we will need more to complete the project as envisioned. We encourage everyone to send in their donations and be a part of history.”
The FUFG have already entered into a phase of planning for the design of the site as well as stakeholder and public consultations which are expected to continue into the fall.
Donations and pledges can be made online or by cheque (payable to Friends of Upper Fort Garry) mailed to:
