Archaeological Monitoring of Gas Pipeline Installation along York Avenue (Main St. to Waterfront Dr.)

Monitoring of mechanized excavation of two vertical shafts required for installation of a natural gas pipeline from an existing line east of the intersection of York Avenue and Waterfront Drive did not yield any cultural material. Soil stratigraphy is discussed in detail.

Archaeological Monitoring of Geo-Technical Investigations at the Portage East Site

Monitoring of geo-technical investigations consisted of visual inspection of auger drillings. A total of 5 artifacts from the recent Industrial Period (post-1870) were recovered, with most relating to the last 50 years. Appendices include an artifact catalogue.

Archaeological Monitoring of Geo-Technical Investigations for the Proposed Canadian Museum for Human Rights at The Forks

Monitoring of drilling small 12.5 cm diameter auger holes yielded a total of 273 artifacts. Cultural horizons were encountered, however none of the recoveries are culturally diagnostic, as they consist of floral and faunal remains. Stratigraphic data is presented in detail.

Monitoring of 10 soil test drill holes consisted of visual inspection of disturbed and undisturbed soil columns. No evidence of Precontact occupation was observed, and Postcontact evidence was limited to fragmented structural artifacts. Stratigraphy is discussed.

Archaeological Monitoring of The Forks Axial Pathway from Esplanade Riel (Pedestrian Bridge) to VIA Rail Station

Monitoring of auger drilling included recording of soil stratigraphy but did not yield any artifacts. Stratigraphy is discussed in detail for each excavated component: water feature profiles; wet well profile; site drainage catchbasin; peace meeting interpretive node profiles; and tree planting trenches. The report concludes that the sub-surface components of the pathway had no impact on archaeological resources.

Monitoring of four small, drilled holes as part of minimal geo-technical investigations did not yield any artifacts and did not allow for definitive conclusions to be drawn regarding the existence of sub-surface cultural horizons in the vicinity of the right-of-way.
